Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Resolutions/Goals (1/16/18)

Hello everyone! I’m here to give you my top ten bookish resolutions and goals. If you’re not sure what it is then visit: That Artsy Reader Girl

  1. Take more notes: I like to highlight lines in an eBook and tab in a physical book but I always forget why I tabbed. When I go to write a review I never add anything specific because I don’t remember. I want to have some sort of journal where I can jot down everything I want to write in a review for a book, as well as remember for my own benefit. I feel like when I do everything electronically I never remember to use it. I’ll also remember more about the books I read (I don’t have the greatest memory).
  2. Read from genres I don’t usually pick up: This one is pretty simple. I read a lot of YA and mystery. I never really find myself picking up fantasy or sci-fi. If I could just read one book from a different genre every month I would be pretty satisfied. I am doing the Popsugar reading challenge so that should help me out a lot.
  3. Request ARCS that I am ACTUALLY interested in: I definitely don’t do this enough. I always request ARCS on netgalley that sound interesting but I know I’ll never read. When I get accepted for one I dread it. I always find myself not picking them up to read or just forgetting about them. It never really happens with physical ARCS because I’ve only gotten a few, and they are ones I’m most anticipating.
  4. Participate in readathons: I participated in one readathon in 2017. I didn’t really have the time but I can quite easily participate in my own 24 hour readathon. I just need to take a day and read until I can’t read anymore. It’s not that difficult. I don’t really have that much of a life outside of work. I just need to remember to spend quality time with my boyfriend too. (haha)
  5. Take my time: I always tend to feel rushed when I read a book. No one is rushing me. I need to tell myself that it’s okay if I don’t finish a book in 3 days or a week. If I’m enjoying it or if it’s a dense read it is okay to take 2 weeks. There is no deadline. Read 1 book a month? No big deal. I have a blog now so I feel like I need to read 10 books a month.
  6. Try to read 8-10 books a month: I guess I should disregard the previous goal. Obviously if I don’t read 8-10 books a month it is not the end of the world. I just feel like I am more confident while reading, therefore I can pick up my pace a bit. I haven’t been a big reader my whole life so I was always extremely slow. Now that I read everyday I can understand more and read faster. Does that make sense? Probably not.
  7. Buy more books: I know everyone says that they need to stop buying books and read what is already on their shelves. NOT ME. I have been reading books from my library for the past 5-6 months. I love it and it is definitely a money saver but when I read a good book I want to be able to put it on my shelves. I have two and a half small shelves with books and that’s it. I don’t have some of my favorite books and it breaks my heart a little bit.
  8. Host a bookish giveaway: I have always been interested in hosting a giveaway. I was actually wanting to do one when I hit 100 subscribers. I don’t have tons of money to just send a book to someone, but it’s definitely something to consider in the future. I guess that is something to look forward to.
  9. Keep track of my reading statistics better: I know that there is goodreads but there are just some things that aren’t easy to figure out when looking at goodreads. Example: Searching through all your read books for female/male authors. How many pages each book was. The genre of a book. You have to constantly go back and forth and it’s just easier to write it in a journal or on a spreadsheet.
  10. Improve my writing for my blog posts: This isn’t much of a bookish goal, but reading more will help me accomplish that. More reading = more reviews. Sometimes I feel like I never get my point across well enough and it’s because I don’t know the right words to say. I definitely want to step up my game.

If you all made a top ten Tuesday about your bookish goals/resolutions let me know what they were in the comments. If you enjoyed reading this post, give it a big like and follow my blog if you want to read future posts of mine. Be respectful and happy reading.
