Dewey’s Pre-Readathon To-Be-Read List

Dewey’s is hosting a pre-readathon before the actual 24-hour readathon on October 24th. I gave you a link to the announcement page where it describes everything about it. I don’t think I’ll complete 15 books by the 24th, but I’ll try to get to a few of these. I picked ones that were already high on my list.

Read a long book (over 500 pages)

I read the first book, The Lies of Locke Lamora, and I absolutely loved it. There’s no doubt that I’ll love this one, too. It has an amazing cast of characters and the plot is *chef’s kiss.*

Read a short book (under 250 pages)

I picked this up from a used bookstore not too long ago. I’ve always wanted to read Toni Morrison, but I never knew where to start. I think I’ve decided it’s going to be this one.

Pick 5 of your favorite genres and enter them in a randomizer. Read a book in that genre

The randomizer chose contemporary. My friend gifted me an ARC of this one, and I’ve been wanting to pick it up ever since.

Read a “spooky” book (your own definition of spooky is fine)

I’m not sure if this is spooky, but the synopsis is so weird. I’m not sure what to expect with this one. All I know is that it’s been getting a lot of hype lately.

Read a book that is 75% one color on the cover

I’ve heard that this book has a lot of sex talk. I’ve also heard that it talks about the porn industry, which isn’t talked about in books. I’m interested to see what it has to say.

Read a book that was published in the last 18 months

This was published in September, and it sounds like such a fun YA novel. I don’t read YA often, so I try to choose carefully.

Read a book that was published more than 100 years ago

I mainly just want to read this and watch the movie everyone raved about.

Read a book set in the Fall or with a cover that looks like it is Fall (leaves changing, etc)

This book probably doesn’t give anyone else Fall vibes, but I think it’s very Fall. I think it’s mainly the orange / yellow flower.

Read a book set in the Spring or with a cover that looks like it is Spring (trees blooming, etc)

If that cover doesn’t scream Spring, then I don’t know what does. It’s so bright and blue / green. I’ve also heard wonderful things about this author.

Read at least 75% of a book when it’s dark outside

I mainly read at night, so this challenge won’t be hard at all. This one is bound to be an adventure. There’s no way Turton wouldn’t deliver.

Read at least 75% of a book outside (please social distance… a park or back patio will do fine)

I’ve watched the tv show twice, and I fell in love. I knew I wanted to read the graphic novel series that takes place after the show. So far, so good.

Read a book with an animal (real or made up) on the cover

I can’t believe I haven’t read this one, yet. The cover obviously has a little tea dragon on the front cover. These graphic novels are just too adorable. I love them so much.

Read a book with a main character or author whose first name starts with the same letter as your first name

My name starts with a V and so does Schwab’s. I have this one checked out from the library, and I plan to buddy read it with a friend.

Take five books you really want to read and put them in a randomizer and read whichever one is chosen

I started and finished The Duchess Deal in one day. I thought it was well done. I’m excited to read book two in this series. This is actually the one I heard about first.

Read a book that is set in a location you wish you could visit or live in. This location can be real or imaginary

Why do I keep putting this one off? I’m sure you’re all sick of reading about it from me. It’s one of my most anticipated reads of 2020. It takes place in Australia, and I’ve always wanted to visit.

Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-thon Wrap-Up!

Hello everyone! So on October 21st I participated in Dewey’s 24 hour Read-a-thon. The link takes you to the website that explains when they have the read-a-thons and everything else that goes along with it. I didn’t end up sticking to my TBR just because I knew I wouldn’t finish most of those books.

I started reading Without Merit by Colleen Hoover before I started the read-a-thon. I had  155 pages left and I finished it. There is short review of it on my Goodreads. If you want to see a full review here on my blog comment down below! I would gladly write one.

After finishing that I picked up a few books.

The first book was Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire. I was going into this with high expectations considering most people love it. I haven’t been let down yet. I read 53 pages of that and I am definitely enjoying it.

I started reading Heartless by Marissa Mayer before the read-a-thon but I read 23 pages during. I’m buddy reading it with a friend on Goodreads and we can both agree that it’s not a good book. That’s all I’m going to say about it because I need to finish it.

31458203

Orbiting Jupiter by Gary D. Schmidt was the last book I picked up and I ended up reading 91 pages of that. Honestly, I was expecting to finish the book but life got in the way of that. I will definitely finish it soon though, considering how small it is and how big the font is. I’m sort of enjoying it but honestly it’s a little boring to me. Hopefully it gets better.

Overall I read 322 pages for my first read-a-thon. I was hoping to get quite a few books out of the way but I’m happy with what I read. 322 pages for me in one day is actually quite a bit. I barely hit 100 most of the time.

Let me know if you participated in Dewey’s read-a-thon or any other read-a-thon! I would like to see what all of you read and accomplished. Remember to be respectful and happy reading!

Dewey’s 24 Hr Readathon TBR!

If you didn’t know, there is a 24 hour read-a-thon on October 21st. I’ve never participated in one before so now is my chance. I will be posting on all my social media that is linked on my blog page if you want to follow me on all of that. I will also do a wrap up after the read-a-thon is over! I highly encourage you to participate. I think it will be a lot of fun!

Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon

For me, this TBR is a bit ambitious since I am a pretty slow reader. I do have the attention span of a goldfish (no hate towards goldfish) so a lot of books help me from not getting bored. Books aren’t boring to me it’s just I can’t sit and do one thing for a long period of time.

Without Merit by Colleen Hoover

Goodreads Synopsis

34684620

I have already started Without Merit and I am about 65 pages in. Obviously I will chip away at this book throughout the week but I do work some days so it’s going to be a challenge. This will probably be my main focus during the read-a-thon. If it’s all I read I will still be satisfied!

Bird Box by Josh Malerman

Goodreads Synopsis

18498558

This is one of the creepy books I’ll try to read since it is October! It’s not one of my main priorities but I will definitely try to get to it if I can. If you have read this book, no spoilers, tell me what you thought of it.

Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire

Goodreads Synopsis

25526296

One of my co workers recommended this book as well as the second one. I heard these books left people wanting more since they are so short. I’m hoping I’ll want the same. I could probably bust the two of them out in a day but I don’t want to rush anything if these are such good books!

Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire

Goodreads Synopsis

31450908

Ringer by Lauren Oliver.

Goodreads Synopsis

30457727

This one is probably my most anticipated read! If I don’t get to it I will definitely read it soon and do a review. I have read Replica before I started my blog. I hope Ringer is as good if not better than the first one. Don’t let me down Lauren Oliver!

That’s my tbr so let me know what you think of it! I’d like to know your opinions on these books. Be respectful and happy reading.
