I love Avatar: The Last Airbender so much that this tag really spoke to me. It was created by Hannah @ A Clockwork Reader

This was a tough one to complete, but I was able to finish it many hours later. I hope you enjoy!

Water

Katara and Sokka—The best sibling relationship

The first book that comes to mind is The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo. I highly recommend that book. It was one of my top favorite books of 2019!

Yue—Favorite star-crossed lovers

The only star-crossed lovers I can think of, that I actually enjoyed reading about, are Evelyn Hugo and Celia in The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It’s heartbreaking to think that in the 50s someone had to hide their sexuality. It makes me horribly sad that judgement of sexuality is still a thing in 2021. I think this is a good book to read if you’re wanting to read about that topic. I’m not sure how accurate the representation is, but I’ve never heard anything negative about it. Regardless, I’d give this a read if I were you.

Blood bending—A book with a disturbing concept

Bunny by Mona Awad. I’m still not sure what I read, but I know it was disturbing and weird as shit. I don’t even know if I recommend it.

Earth

Toph—A character whose strength surprised you / or surprised the other characters in the book

Tante Truus in The Last Train to London by Meg Waite Clayton. She’s an incredible character with an incredible strength to withstand the struggles she faces in the book. She rescues Jewish children from Nazi Germany by train. One of the best characters I’ve read in a book.

The Tales of Ba Sing Se—The best short story / poetry collection

I don’t have a favorite poetry or short story collection, unfortunately. I don’t think I’ve ever read a short story collection now that I think about it. If you just want a short story/novella, I would recommend checking out, And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer by Fredrik Backman.

Kioshi Warriors—Best warrior character

Would you consider Spensa from Skyward a warrior? I will for this prompt. I love Spensa and you cannot/will not change my mind.

Fire

Zuko—The best redemption arc / a redemption arc that should have happened

I think that if Murderbot was a villain in the beginning of the Murderbot Diaries series, then it would have made for a great redemption arc. We met it when it already went rogue and started helping people. I still love Murderbot, though.

Iroh—The wisest character

Is Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings too cheesy of an answer?

Azula—The best downfall

Elena Richardson from Little Fires Everywhere.

Air

Appa—Favorite fictional animal

I’m not making this up, but it’s either Appa or Momo from Avatar: The Last Airbender. I did read the first two graphic novels, so I’d say that counts for a book tag. I definitely love the tv series more, though. Can we all agree?

Aang—Purest cinnamon roll

Daisy from Giant Days was a pretty pure cinnamon roll working on breaking out of her shell.

Avatar state—A stubborn character / a character that struggles with letting go

Olive Kitteridge is one of the most stubborn characters I’ve ever read about. I just really didn’t like her.

Dewey’s Pre-Readathon To-Be-Read List

Dewey’s is hosting a pre-readathon before the actual 24-hour readathon on October 24th. I gave you a link to the announcement page where it describes everything about it. I don’t think I’ll complete 15 books by the 24th, but I’ll try to get to a few of these. I picked ones that were already high on my list.

Read a long book (over 500 pages)

I read the first book, The Lies of Locke Lamora, and I absolutely loved it. There’s no doubt that I’ll love this one, too. It has an amazing cast of characters and the plot is *chef’s kiss.*

Read a short book (under 250 pages)

I picked this up from a used bookstore not too long ago. I’ve always wanted to read Toni Morrison, but I never knew where to start. I think I’ve decided it’s going to be this one.

Pick 5 of your favorite genres and enter them in a randomizer. Read a book in that genre

The randomizer chose contemporary. My friend gifted me an ARC of this one, and I’ve been wanting to pick it up ever since.

Read a “spooky” book (your own definition of spooky is fine)

I’m not sure if this is spooky, but the synopsis is so weird. I’m not sure what to expect with this one. All I know is that it’s been getting a lot of hype lately.

Read a book that is 75% one color on the cover

I’ve heard that this book has a lot of sex talk. I’ve also heard that it talks about the porn industry, which isn’t talked about in books. I’m interested to see what it has to say.

Read a book that was published in the last 18 months

This was published in September, and it sounds like such a fun YA novel. I don’t read YA often, so I try to choose carefully.

Read a book that was published more than 100 years ago

I mainly just want to read this and watch the movie everyone raved about.

Read a book set in the Fall or with a cover that looks like it is Fall (leaves changing, etc)

This book probably doesn’t give anyone else Fall vibes, but I think it’s very Fall. I think it’s mainly the orange / yellow flower.

Read a book set in the Spring or with a cover that looks like it is Spring (trees blooming, etc)

If that cover doesn’t scream Spring, then I don’t know what does. It’s so bright and blue / green. I’ve also heard wonderful things about this author.

Read at least 75% of a book when it’s dark outside

I mainly read at night, so this challenge won’t be hard at all. This one is bound to be an adventure. There’s no way Turton wouldn’t deliver.

Read at least 75% of a book outside (please social distance… a park or back patio will do fine)

I’ve watched the tv show twice, and I fell in love. I knew I wanted to read the graphic novel series that takes place after the show. So far, so good.

Read a book with an animal (real or made up) on the cover

I can’t believe I haven’t read this one, yet. The cover obviously has a little tea dragon on the front cover. These graphic novels are just too adorable. I love them so much.

Read a book with a main character or author whose first name starts with the same letter as your first name

My name starts with a V and so does Schwab’s. I have this one checked out from the library, and I plan to buddy read it with a friend.

Take five books you really want to read and put them in a randomizer and read whichever one is chosen

I started and finished The Duchess Deal in one day. I thought it was well done. I’m excited to read book two in this series. This is actually the one I heard about first.

Read a book that is set in a location you wish you could visit or live in. This location can be real or imaginary

Why do I keep putting this one off? I’m sure you’re all sick of reading about it from me. It’s one of my most anticipated reads of 2020. It takes place in Australia, and I’ve always wanted to visit.

Well, it’s four stars across the board. I’d call it a successful reading month, even though 60% of them were graphic novels. IT STILL COUNTS.

If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare. A close second is Giant Days by John Allison.

October To-Be-Read

There are three books that I need to finish up:

Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson

“Gripping, tragic, and densely atmospheric, Snow Falling on Cedars is a masterpiece of suspense—but one that leaves us shaken and changed.”

Check, Please!, Book 2: Sticks & Scones by Ngozi Ukazu

“. . . the last in a hilarious and stirring two-volume coming-of-age story about hockey, bros, and trying to find yourself during the best four years of your life.”

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow

“A book that carries the scent of other worlds, and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure and danger. Each page turn reveals impossible truths about the world and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own.”

The rest of the books I want to read will probably be mostly sequels, and a thriller to make my list more appealing to the spooky szn lovers.

Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Promise, Part 2 by Gene Luen Yang
