SYNOPSIS
Kya Clark is who the folks of Barkley Cove call “Marsh Girl.” When the well known Chase Andrews dies all eyes go straight to Kya. What they don’t know is how much she has actually gone through.
Kya was abandoned by her family at a very young age. She raised herself in the marsh and only attended school for one day. She learns from nature instead of people. She does finally realize that she needs to have some human interaction. She finds herself involved with two boys. One of them you end up loving and the other is a horrible human being. Just when she starts to open up, something inconceivable happens.
REVIEW
► I understand why this story is a favorite for a lot of readers. It’s fantastically written. There is absolutely nothing bad to say about the writing style. The dialogue is realistic, the characters are very well developed, and the story is intriguing. That should be a recipe for success. Unfortunately, that was not my whole experience.
►The story fell very flat for me. This is almost 400 pages and it seemed like nothing really happened. The best parts involved Tate, one of the boys that Kya is involved with. He taught her how to read and he gave her endless encouragement. If Chase didn’t die, and Kya ended up with him, I would have been very disappointed. I guess that is one of the pluses with this story. The main character ends up with the right person.
► Courtroom drama was part of the story, and I thought that this was the books time to shine. Courtroom drama is a guilty pleasure of mine. I was not impressed with that in this particular book. It didn’t keep me on the edge of my seat. I sat back and watched the show. I just wanted more drama! It was too easy. If you thought for a second that something different was going to happen, you need to leave.
► There is a plot twist at the end. I honestly didn’t expect it. I wish I could discuss what I thought but that would spoil it for everyone. In the back of my mind I had it all figured out but that isn’t how I wanted it to end. That doesn’t hurt my rating though.
► Overall, it is a solid book. The writing is my favorite part about it. It’s hard not to like the writing. The story fell a little flat, but I believe that a lot can still come from this book. I still highly recommend reading this. If you were thinking about it just go ahead and pick it up.
