Top Ten Tuesday: Books that surprised me in a good/bad way (3/13/18)

Surprise, surprise another Top Ten Tuesday!

Check out the blog that hosts Top Ten Tuesday: That Artsy Reader Girl

Good:

  1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling: The hype was overwhelming, and I never wanted to pick this up. I take back every bad word and eye roll that I made towards this book.
  2. The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman: I know there is a lot of discussion about religion coming from his novels. I get it and I observed it in the rest of his books but I just couldn’t help but love this one. Sometimes you just have to see past it.
  3. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho: It’s my favorite book. I’ve read it at least 5 times and it never ceases to amaze me.
  4. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak: I read this in high school not thinking that it would become one of my favorite books. It definitely blew me away.
  5. Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng: I never would have picked this up just based on the premise. It received a lot of hype and I just gave it a shot, and I was not disappointed.
  6. We are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson: I couldn’t get into this book at first. I figured it was just another YA book. You could tell it was YA but you could also tell it was so much more than that.
  7. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien: Do I have to explain myself with this one? The characters and the world is just breathtaking.

Bad:

  1. Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough: I waited for the amazing ending, and all I was left with was confusion and anger. I refuse to read anymore of her books.
  2. Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo: I heard so many good things about her writing and this book. I gave it a shot and it ended up being a blood bath so to speak. It makes me not want to read any of her other books.
  3. Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia: I’ve heard a lot of great things about this book. Yes, it portrayed mental illness quite well but there were points where it was just overboard.

What are some books that surprised you? Let me know down in the comments.

If you enjoyed this give it a like and follow me for future Top Ten Tuesday’s! Be respectful and happy reading.
